UPM CFO and EVP, UPM Energy Tapio Korpeinen to retire in 2027

HELSINKI, March 16, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- UPM's Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, UPM Energy Tapio Korpeinen has expressed his intent to retire from his positions and the UPM Group Executive Team at the end of 2026 after reaching his contractual retirement age and continue as Senior Advisor until mid-2027.

The company has initiated the succession plans, and will search for successors for both the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, UPM Energy positions separately.

Risto Penttinen appointed Executive Vice President, Transformation

Risto Penttinen has been appointed Executive Vice President, Transformation and member of the UPM's Group Executive Team as of April 13, 2026. He will report to Massimo Reynaudo, President and CEO.

Risto Penttinen, born 1968, has a master's degree in international business. He has worked in various senior management roles at Fortum and Uniper in 2011-2024, also as a member of Fortum's executive team. Prior to this, he worked as a consultant and partner at McKinsey & Company for 14 years. He currently works as an independent consultant.

Der Zürcher FDP-Stadtrat Michael Baumer verzichtet auf eine Kandidatur für das Stadtpräsidium und will stattdessen im Departement der Industriellen Betriebe bleiben. Damit schwinden die Aussichten auf einen ernsthaften bürgerlichen Gegenkandidaten für den SP-Politiker Raphael Golta im zweiten Wahlgang am 10. Mai deutlich. Baumer erklärte, er könne in seinem heutigen Ressort «konkret etwas für die Stadt Zürich bewegen» und wolle laufende Projekte konsequent vorantreiben.

Ob Baumer sein bisheriges Departement in der neuen Legislatur tatsächlich behalten kann, ist allerdings offen. Parlamentarierinnen und Parlamentarier der linken Parteien haben ihre Stadträte bereits aufgefordert, Gespräche über eine Neuverteilung der Ressorts aufzunehmen. Dies könnte zu Verschiebungen in der Stadtregierung führen, unabhängig vom Ausgang der Präsidiumswahl.

Die FDP steht nach dem Entscheid ohne eigene Kandidatur für das höchste Stadtamt da. Ihr ursprünglicher Anwärter, Përparim Avdili, verpasste den Einzug in den Stadtrat und ist damit für den zweiten Wahlgang nicht wählbar. Die Partei will keine Wahlempfehlung abgeben. Damit fällt eine koordinierte Unterstützung für einen bürgerlichen Schulterschluss weg. Auch der GLP-Stadtrat Andreas Hauri, der als weiterer potenzieller Herausforderer Goltas gehandelt wurde, hat klar gemacht, dass er das Gesundheits- und Umweltdepartement weiterführen will.

Für Golta verbessert sich die Ausgangslage damit deutlich, auch wenn eine stille Wahl rechtlich nicht möglich ist. Im ersten Wahlgang am 8. März verpasste er das absolute Mehr von 57'562 Stimmen um 2'730 Stimmen. Avdili kam als stärkster Herausforderer auf 28'053 Stimmen, der SVP-Kandidat Ueli Bamert auf 15'072 und die GLP-Kandidatin Serap Kahriman auf 10'602 Stimmen. Deutlich abgeschlagen lagen Marcel Bühler (FL Züri) mit 944 und der Parteilose Peter Vetsch mit 409 Stimmen; auf weitere Vereinzelte entfielen 5'210 Stimmen. Ohne prominente Konkurrenz dürfte der zweite Wahlgang zur Bestätigung dieses Kräfteverhältnisses werden.
